| How the Amber Alert Works |
|
|
The world we live in is filled with uncertainty, chaos, heart-break,
melancholy, violence, fear, and pain. Of course it's not all bad, but
sometimes it seems that way. To this day, I can't fathom why anyone
would ever rob a family of a child. This has got to be one of the
worst, if not THE worst, crimes known to mankind.
It plain and simply destroys lives and breaks hearts. Fortunately our judicial system has established a way to get missing children back into loving arms with all haste. It's called the Amber alert, and it was named after a nine year old girl, Amber Hagerman. This alert works with our law enforcement teams, transportation units, and broadcasting mediums. All work collaboratively to get children back as soon as possible. The first hours are always the most crucial. You've probably flipped on the television or radio at some point and heard an Amber alert. Pay close attention! This broadcast will not only inform you that a child has gone missing, but it will also give you a description of the victim. You need this information handy since you just might spot the child out in public. We all have to work as a group and NOT let our nation's criminals steal our children from us. Who knows, it could be your child that some sick individual is eyeing next time. One thing that's uplifting is the fact that the Amber alert has helped many families get their children back. Even if the Amber alert had only helped one, it would still be worth it. Only a few weeks ago, a friend of mine informed me that her niece was almost abducted. I was saddened to hear that it was close to home. She was apparently standing outside of a grocery store, near her mother. However, when the mother took her eyes off of the child to put away a shopping cart, a strange man began to chat with the little girl. Luckily the mother spotted them and rushed over. Well, as it turned out, the man was a registered sex offender. He was out of prison and searching for a new child to lure in. This was almost an Amber alert situation. Luckily for the mother, she spotted her child before she was taken or lured away. Always keep your little ones close. Although the Amber alert is beneficial, it's far greater to never need it. |
